Understanding Layering Systems

Can my dog wear more than one jacket at the same time?

Absolutely. Pairing multiple pieces allows you to create your own layering system. Layering is a great way to customize warmth and weather protection depending on your adventure.

Choose a Mid Layer

A dog's coat acts as their first layer or base layer. Our apparel pieces with regular or formfitting designs make excellent mid layers. Formfitting items fit snugly and conform to the body’s contours. Regular Fit items are tailored with a bit of wiggle room. Both can be worn standalone or layered under Relaxed apparel.

Choose an Outer Layer

Build additional warmth by adding another insulating layer. When exploring in wet conditions, consider also adding a jacket with a waterproof or weather-resistant shell to keep your canine companion comfortable and dry. Choose a Relaxed Fit item for a looser fit that drapes the body and layers over your pup’s Regular or Formfitting apparel.

How do I layer a harness with my pup’s jacket?

When incorporating a harness into your layering system, there are three options:

  • Layer your harness over a Regular or Formfitting piece without a leash portal
  • Layer your harness under a Relaxed Fit piece with a leash portal
  • Layer your harness between a Formfitting piece and a Relaxed Fit piece with a leash portal
