Whether you are spending a weekend on the lake, navigating river currents, or introducing your pup to paddleboarding, keeping your dog safe in and around the water is a top priority. When choosing flotation gear, one size does not fit all. Different water activities—and different dog behaviors—call for specific design features.
Here is a breakdown of how our two Life Jackets, the Float Coat™ and the Confluence™ Life Jacket, are engineered, and how to choose the best option for your dog.
The Float Coat™
The Float Coat is designed for maximum buoyancy and swim performance. Every element is crafted to ensure your dog stays comfortable, visible, and safe in the water.
The Breakaway D-Ring Safety Feature
One of the most frequently asked questions about the Float Coat is why the attachment point under the handle is made of plastic rather than metal. This is an intentional breakaway safety feature.
The plastic D-ring is designed for light leash guidance—such as walking your dog from the car to the dock or boat. However, underwater hazards like submerged logs, branches, or rocks pose a real threat if a leash or tether gets snagged while your dog is swimming.
Under extreme pressure, the Float Coat’s D-ring is engineered to release. If your dog’s line catches on an obstacle underwater, the D-ring will snap under high load, freeing your pup to swim safely back to the surface and to shore rather than remaining anchored underwater.
Lifting and Assistance
To lift your dog from the water onto a boat or paddleboard, always use the Float Coat’s heavy-duty top handle, which is reinforced to support your dog’s full weight.
The Confluence™ Life Jacket
Because the Float Coat’s D-ring intentionally releases under heavy force, a strong puller on land could trigger the breakaway feature unexpectedly. For these dogs, we developed the Confluence™ Life Jacket.
The Reinforced Tow Loop
The Confluence replaces the breakaway D-ring with a reinforced tow loop. Built from high-strength webbing and stitching, this attachment point is designed to handle sudden, high-force pulls without giving way. It provides full leash control on land, at the water’s edge, and during active water sports where a secure connection is critical.
