Waterproof vs. Water-Resistant

Will a water-resistant jacket be protective enough?

Water-resistant pieces will repel light moisture for a short duration of time. Look for Ruffwear apparel that uses a Durable Water Repellent finish (DWR) or is marked as Water Resistant.

Consider how long you and your canine companion will be out in the elements, and how much moisture there will be. For short walks in light rain, misty morning hikes, or romps in dry snow, water-resistant jackets will keep your pup cozy.

When should I choose waterproof?

Waterproof pieces are designed to keep more moisture out for long periods of time. Look for Ruffwear apparel that uses a Polyurethane finish (PU) or is marked as Waterproof.

Again, consider the weather and how long you and your dog will be out. For heavy rain, longer hikes with steady rain, or treks through wet snow, waterproof jackets can help extend adventures.

Keep in mind that jackets will only protect where they cover, so if your tail-wagging friend loves to puddle jump, you may need some clean-up post adventure. Consider the Dirtbag™ Dog Drying Towel for a quick way to dry off while containing dirt and grime.
