VOLUNTARY PRODUCT RECALL NOTICE ON RUFFWEAR LEASHES WITH CRUX CLIP™ HARDWARE
Bend, Oregon (March 19, 2021) Ruffwear is voluntarily issuing a recall on leashes with Crux Clip™ hardware purchased before November 3rd of 2021.
If you purchased your Crux Clip™ leash after November 3rd of 2021, your leash features an updated design with a lockable Crux Clip™. Lockable Crux Clip™ leashes are not affected by the recall. Please see the photos below for examples of Crux Clip™ hardware that are included in the recall.
We’ve received some reports where previous designs of the Crux Clip hardware unclips during use. This can happen when the clip twists and the leash connection point on a harness or collar leverages the wire gate open, resulting in the dog no longer being connected to the leash.
The following leashes featuring a Crux Clip sold prior to November 3rd of 2021 are included in this recall:

To participate in the recall, we ask that you fill out the form
You will have the option to receive credit for the purchase price of your leash in the form of an e-Gift Card. Please include a photo of the Crux Clip cut off of your leash to prevent further use.
What should I do if I purchased my leash with a Crux Clip from a retailer other than ruffwear.com?
The process is the same for leashes purchased online, from retailers, or directly from Ruffwear. Please follow the warranty process: fill out the warranty form, including a photo of the Crux Clip cut off of your leash to prevent further use. Once your warranty has been processed, we’ll send you a ruffwear.com e-gift card for the purchase price of your leash.
What if I have more than one leash with a Crux Clip?
You will need to fill out a separate claim form for each leash you have with a Crux Clip.
I haven’t had any problems with my leash that has a Crux Clip. Can I continue to use it?
We recommend you follow the warranty process: fill out the warranty form, including a photo of the Crux Clip cut off of your leash to prevent further use. Once your warranty has been processed, we’ll send you a ruffwear.com e-gift card for the purchase price of your leash.
What if my leash has a different clip?
If your leash has a different clip like the Talon Clip™ or our locking carabiner, your leash is not impacted by this recall and there is no action to take.
If I want to keep my current leash, can I install the new lockable piece onto my existing leash if it has a Crux Clip?
Yes! We intentionally designed the lockable component to be retrofittable to extend the life of the leashes still out there. It takes a bit of elbow grease to install the lock – To get an idea of what the installation process looks like check out this video.
